Giving the studio the keys to “Dragon Ball” was an inspired choice because the team brings a heightened level of craft and combines it with intelligent combat design. Capitalizing on that, publisher Bandai Namco tapped Arc System Works for a new fighting game called “Dragon Ball FighterZ.” It’s a match a made in heaven for anime fans and gamers.Īrc System Works has built its reputation on its exquisitely animated fighting games such as “Guilty Gear” and “BlazBlue.” The studio performs miracles with pixels, creating visuals that are almost indistinguishable from pen-on-paper work. It wasn’t until creator Akira Toriyama returned in 2015 with “ Dragon Ball Super” that the long-running franchise regained its momentum.
The series peaked with the finale of the Majin Buu saga in 1996, and since then, it lurched from a side story series and remasters.
After more than two decades of mediocrity, the “ Dragon Ball” franchise is enjoying a resurgence.
